We recently worked on a new project to develop a set of open source physics photogates. These photogates will be used in the classroom this year as part of an innovative STEM program at the Pasadena App Academy.
The photogate project includes the following components:
- Pair of large photogates (18 cm x 13 cm)
- Photogate shield for Arduino
- Arduino firmware
- Open source software - currently available for Windows and Linux
The photogate itself is machined on a CNC Router from a sheet of 0.25" ABS. Once these parts are manufactured, assembly of the photogate is fairly straight-forward. A list of all the parts is included in the online documentation.
More information about this project including build instructions and example labs can be found on the project Documentation Page at http://public.iorodeo.com/docs/photogate/. Components and kits from this project are also available from our online store.
